The politics of Wetherspoons, via A Better Course. This struck me as interesting on the day that, faced with slumping attendance, pubs appear to be edging out of their voluntary agreements on encouraging responsible drinking, since by definition responsible drinkers are deeply unprofitable drinkers. Presumably the PR hit and the risk of regulation is worth it in the face of the non-appearance of a mass of reasonable, responsible drinkers, each of ten drinking one pint to compensate for ten-pint Larry's suddenly abstemious ways.
